Our Program

Our Children’s House is a class of 15 students.  We accept children ages 2.5 to 6 years old, which creates an environment of mixed ages that encourages children to lead and to follow.  We strive to create a community of lifelong learners who are capable, confident, and caring.

Our full-time program is open for children to attend full days. Full-time students participate in our 3-Hour Work Period. This is when the classroom is available for introductions on new materials, group projects, and the opportunity to practice skills and work with friends. Children spend time outdoors, and then eat lunch with their friends and teachers. After a rest, children come together for afternoon snack, and then are free to choose activities that interest them. Our staff support learning in the afternoons as well, following the child’s motivations and progress.

In our part-time program, children may attend for five half-days, participating in the Work Period and a morning snack. Morning students will receive the full benefit of our programming and have access to all of the same Montessori materials as children who attend all day.

To foster a community environment, children learn to care for their classroom and classmates with practical lessons, cooperative activities, and respect modeled by our staff.  Children have opportunities to prepare snack for their friends, help care for classroom plants, to tidy and organize their own workspace.

Our morning Work Period is from 8:30 to 11:30 each morning.  On Fridays, we welcome guests to read to the class, teach forestry and gardening, do yoga, or share a special skill.
